FAQ

We've put together a little FAQ to answer any questions you may have about Writers X Writers, a screenplay competition with a difference!

It's pretty thorough, so choose a section below or search yourself.

  • Can I enter more than one screenplay?
Yes, you can enter as many screenplays as you like, but we recommend submitting your strongest work.
  • What makes Writers X Writers unique?
Our competition is run by writers, for writers, and we place a strong emphasis on networking and building connections. We also limit the number of finalists to ensure placements carry more weight.
  • Can anyone enter the competition?
Yes, absolutely! We welcome writers from all backgrounds and experience levels.
  • Will winning the competition guarantee me a successful writing career?
No, unfortunately winning a competition is not a guarantee of success. However, we aim to provide the tools and resources to help you take the next steps in your writing journey.
  • Do I have to pay to enter the competition?
Yes, our entry fee there to cover administrative costs and prize packages.
  • How do I know my work is in safe hands?
Our team of judges are experienced industry readers, including writers themselves, managers agents and delopment executives. Although your work will never be shared beyond the competition, without your permission.
  • What can I win?
Our prize package is curated to include developmental tools and resources for writers, as well as opportunities to make industry connections.
  • The ScriptUp Advanced Coverage Service seems quite expensive. Is it really worth it?
Without a doubt! ScriptUp are one of the foremost providers of coverage available out there. Their track record of reviews alone is enough to satisfy the most dubious of critics. Additionally, most services provided by ScriptUp are offered at a reduced rate through our contest, where you also receive a complimentary entry.
  • Is there a limit on page count for a feature?
The short answer is no. The long answer is yes. If you are trying to get industry professionals to read your script, you need to be conscious of their time. Reading a script is a big endeavour! We say you aim to keep you script around the 90 page mark - give or take. That seems to be the sweet spot most readers are happy to consume regularly. Whilst we still accept submissions over 120 pages, we do request an additional fee for our readers to go through it. This is a standard across the contest industry.
  • How long should my feature treatment be?
We have capped our submissions at 5 pages. As treatments go, this should be more than enough to work a new idea from. If you can't grab the readers attention in that amount of time, you may be doing it wrong.
  • Where can I find a good example of a bible for a show?
A quick Google will unearth a treasure trove of available bible for successful shows. But if you're stuck, we recommend this fantastic list to start!
